Digital Literacy Teacher - Elementary K-6 bei Great Bend Unified School District 428

Reports to:            Director of Teaching and Learning
                               Building Principals
 
 
Summary:       Work collaboratively with the Elementary Librarian/Library Aide to provide administration and support across the five elementary schools. The Digital Literacy Teacher will oversee digital literacy lessons at each grade level in every elementary building, guiding students and staff in the effective use of technology for learning.
 
Job Goal:        Ensure all students leave USD 428 Elementary schools with the skills to navigate Digital Technology safely and have adequate keyboarding skills.
 
 
General Responsibilities:

1. Work collaboratively with the Elementary Librarian to ensure a unified and efficient approach to library and digital literacy programming across all elementary schools.
2. Teach students of all grade levels using the ISTE Standards, incorporating information literacy, reference skills, research strategies, technology proficiency, and literature appreciation.
3. Know and adhere to the Professional Teaching Standards.
4. Develop, maintain, and regularly update a balanced collection of digital and print resources that reflect student and curriculum needs.
5. Collaborate with the technology department to ensure that digital teaching tools are functional and accessible to all teaching staff.
6. Provide students with the guidance needed to locate materials that support classroom work and foster independent technology habits.
7. Attend monthly librarian meetings to collaborate with colleagues, discuss library programming, and stay updated on best practices in library services.
8. Maintain professional competence by participating in ongoing professional growth activities, including conferences, workshops, and professional reading.
9. Solicit input from faculty, students, and parents regarding the selection of digital literacy tools.
10. Promote cultural diversity by ensuring the availability of resources that reflect a wide range of perspectives and backgrounds.
11. Provide orientation and ongoing training for students on using computer technology, search strategies, and reference materials effectively.
12. Troubleshoot and resolve minor technology issues in a timely manner, supporting both students and teachers.
13. Informs teachers, administrators, and other staff members about new materials, tools, and resources through digital platforms.
14. Assist in the development and implementation of digital literacy curricula and instructional strategies aligned with district objectives and best practices.
15. Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate digital literacy lessons with core subjects, ensuring technology enhances student learning.
16. Provide support and training to students on the integration of digital tools and media.
17. Stay informed of current trends and innovations in digital literacy, library science, and educational technology.
18. Participate in ongoing professional development to improve skills and knowledge related to digital literacy and technology integration.
19. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to explore, collaborate, and engage with technology.
20. Promote digital citizenship, ensuring students understand the ethical, legal, and responsible use of digital technologies.
21. Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Teaching and Learning.
22. Participate in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and other school-wide initiatives as needed.

 
Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education (required); advanced degree or progress toward an advanced degree preferred.
• Experience in teaching digital literacy or educational technology in a K-12 setting is preferred.
• General knowledge of digital literacy frameworks.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with students, staff, and parents.
• Punctuality and strong organizational skills in managing assignments and responsibilities.

• Ability to instruct and manage student behavior effectively in a library setting.

• Proficiency in the use of a variety of educational technologies and platforms.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with educators, administrators, and students.
• Familiarity with technology standards, and curriculum development.
• Capacity to develop creative solutions to address diverse learning needs and challenges.

 
Physical Requirements:

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Occasional kneeling or crouching.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while performing tasks like data entry or reading.

Travel Requirements:
Travel between the five elementary schools each week, requiring a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
