Purpose of the Position: The Principal sits within Blue Owl Digital Infrastructure (BODI) and leads new energy strategies, transactions and relationships for BODI’s investment team. BODI works hand-in-hand with portfolio company teams to acquire land, advance development, negotiate utility contracts, structure leases, raise financing and deliver data center projects. The Principal will guide deal teams to evaluate energy opportunities, assess market conditions and risks, structure deals, underwrite commercial terms and execute transactions. The Principal will manage executive stakeholder relationships, oversee vendor & consultant programs and represent BODI in industry coalitions as needed. The ideal candidate will possess best-in-class analytical capabilities, communication skills, financial acumen, energy subject-matter knowledge and experience leading large energy/infrastructure transactions.

Scope & Requirements: Day-to-day responsibilities for the Principal will focus on oversight of regional energy priorities and acquisitions for BODI’s portfolio. The Principal will work with BODI leadership and portfolio companies to develop energy strategies and structures to enable hyperscale data centers, including coordination for land, infrastructure and energy capacity. The Principal will support BODI deal teams to advance project analysis, acquisition strategies, contracts, underwriting and Investment Committee approval requests. The Principal must be an experienced energy project investor with a track record of solving problems, negotiating complex deals, structuring commercial terms and managing cross-functional teams to execute large-scale energy projects. Direct knowledge of data center energy programs and technical requirements is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities and Focus:

  • Collaborate with BODI acquisitions leaders to develop short-term and long-term investment strategies. Present occasional energy portfolio reviews and strategies to leadership and steer day-to-day energy team resourcing based on strategic needs.
  • Support deal leads (Analysts, Associates, VPs) driving day-to-day energy project execution, risk assessments and forward plans. Review and sign off on key energy strategies, contract drafts, underwriting terms and approval requests.
  • Manage executive-level energy relationships for BODI. Participate in trade coalitions and events to grow strong relationships with clients, IPPs, utilities, developers and other industry stakeholders to advance BODI energy strategy objectives.
  • Oversee regional energy data across BODI’s portfolio and report annually on key portfolio exposures, risks and growth opportunities with site selection leadership.
  • Mentor and support BODI team members to advance energy skills, knowledge and training. Consult with and support portfolio company energy teams as needed to steer successful project outcomes and strong external relationships.
  • Collaborate on cross-Blue Owl energy opportunities and coordination as needed.

It is expected that the base annual salary range for this San Francisco based position will be $225,000 - $300,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
