Overview:
The Nurse Manager will oversee and manage the Assisted Living Nursing Department and report directly to the Assisted Living Administrator. The ideal candidate will have extensive leadership and supervisory experience in assisted living settings as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
Job Summary:
The Assisted Living Manager is responsible for ensuring the well-being of Assisted Living residents through the delivery of high-quality care and services that comply with applicable state and federal regulations and laws and in a manner that meets or exceeds the mission, vision and values of The Chesapeake and LifeSpire. Performs the duties of the Assisted Living Administrator in their absence.
Job Qualifications:
- Maintain a current license from the Board of Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Must have sound clinical/nursing skills and the ability to perform hands-on nursing care.
- Must possess UAI and ISP certification or obtain within six months of hire.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize and supervise nursing services under the direction and in conjunction with the Assisted Living Administrator.
- Able to provide effective leadership and exercise good judgment in assisting with the hiring, disciplining and management of a diverse employee work group.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills and can work effectively with staff, residents and family members.
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and maintain a positive attitude among staff within the department and among other departments as well.
- Previous experience of three to five years in a nursing supervisor capacity or exhibited commensurate level of skills and knowledge.
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations for Assisted Livings and labor laws required.
- Must be certified in Healthcare Provider CPR/AED (Adult, Child, and Infant).
Primary Daily Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review and update resident documentation including required assessments (such as UAIs, Fall Risk, Elopement Risk, Self-Administrator of Medications, etc.), nurse’s notes, incident reports, FRIs and ISPs.
- Communicate changes in resident condition (weight, labs, diagnostic tests, consults, physician visits, etc.) with nursing staff and resident’s responsible party as indicated. Assist nursing staff in following through with orders and provide education as needed to ensure the proper provision of care.
- Review MARs/TARs and MD progress notes to ensure prompt and proper follow through on orders.
- Assist with and/or coordinate prospective and new resident education, counseling, admissions and transfers between levels of care as well as the same for dischargers.
- Assist with establishing and routinely reviewing policies and procedures.
- Plan and delegate work assignments which provide clinical support to the team.
- Master use of MatrixCare and keep up to date on changes and assist with education of staff as needed in this software program.
- Actively plan, develop and implement improvements to the Assisted Living program of care and services in conjunction with the Assisted Living Administrator.
- Be actively involved in the day-to-day operations and decision making related to Assisted Living.
- Strive to attain excellence in resident satisfaction through ongoing solicitation and measurement of resident feedback, implementation of resident suggestions, interactive problem solving with residents, families and staff and ongoing quality improvement.
- Promotes team building through regular staff meetings and events.
- Attain clinical excellence through Department of Social Services monitoring and licensing visits and surveys and mock surveys.
