PRIMARY FUNCTION(S):
Must be mature, adaptable and have the ability to work pleasantly and tactfully with fellow employees, faculty, students and staff. Must demonstrate the ability to carry out all the essential duties and responsibilities of a Garage Mechanic A Motor Pool. Must have at least five years of experience working in the golf course and grounds industry.
Essential duties and responsibilities
Primarily responsible for the routine, preventative and proactive maintenance of the grounds, golf course, and athletic fields equipment. Includes, but not limited to reel and rotary mowers, aerators, utility vehicles, sprayers, spreaders, hand held equipment, snow blowers, sidewalk plows, and all other associated equipment.
Make recommendations to Motor Pool Manager on which vehicles and equipment should be removed from service and/or replaced.
Works closely, and communicates with the golf course superintendent and golf staff about mechanical, and course condition issues.
Must be able to adjust, grind both reels and bed knives. back lap reel mowers including fairway, greens and apron units utilizing up to date industry standard equipment.
Must be proficient at welding and fabrication processes.
Must have a working knowledge of the game of golf and an understanding of the maintenance standards needed to optimize playing conditions.
Maintains a safe, clean and code compliant work space.
Oversee maintenance records
Oversee and maintain adequate inventory of needed equipment and parts.
Assists with snow removal equipment readiness and repairs.
Plans and programs seasonal sequences of tasks for completion.
Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedule and commitments.
Recommends measures to improve productivity and quality of finished product.
Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department or work crew.
Analyses and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
Estimates, requisitions, and inspects materials.
Coordinates the activities of contractors and vendors as necessary.
Must be willing to help with snow removal, (shoveling, and operating and/or repairing snow equipment).
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
And other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma.
Minimum of 5 years current related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, licenses, registrations
Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Technical degree or certificate(s) related to mechanics, small engine repairs, and hydraulic systems preferred.
Obtain a DOT Health card and Mass Hoisting Engineers License, within one year of service.

Days/Work Hours Monday to Friday – 7:00am to 3:30pm (w/30-minute unpaid lunch), 6:00am to 2:30pm (Seasonal – w/30-minute unpaid lunch)
Days off Saturday & Sunday
Salary:
The pay rate for this role is $44.77 per hour
