POSITION SUMMARY
The Adjunct Faculty – Sociology Instructor provides instruction in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, focusing on the social, cultural, and behavioral factors that influence health, illness, and healthcare delivery. Reporting to the Dean of Nursing, the instructor plans, delivers, and assesses student learning experiences in accordance with the approved curriculum and institutional policies. The Sociology instructor helps nursing students understand the impact of societal structures, diversity, and social determinants on patient care and population health.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate a thorough and current knowledge of Sociology, particularly as it applies to healthcare and nursing.
- Teach assigned Sociology courses using diverse and inclusive instructional strategies to promote engagement and critical thinking.
- Incorporate relevant examples and case studies that connect sociological concepts to nursing practice and public health.
- Develop and update course materials, syllabi, and assessment tools in alignment with program learning outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and grades according to college policies.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student learning and academic growth.
- Participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes and contribute to curriculum review and improvement efforts.
- Maintain regular communication with the Dean and participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities as requested.
- Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions with students, colleagues, and staff.

- Strong understanding of sociological principles, including culture, diversity, socialization, inequality, and social institutions.
- Ability to relate sociological theory to real-world healthcare contexts and interdisciplinary learning.

- Ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s Degree in Sociology or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution required.
- A Master’s Degree in another field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Sociology will also be considered.
- Teaching experience in a college or university setting preferred.
- Experience teaching in a nursing or healthcare-related academic environment is a plus.
