Job Description
Assistant Administrator - New Student Orientation (part-time/28 hr per week)
This position is responsible for assisting the new student orientation (NSO) administrator and the Office of First-Year Experience (FYE) in planning, executing, and assessing a variety of events and maintaining online materials designed to orient and help transition students to university life.
What you will be doing in this position:
Event Design & Management
- In consultation with the NSO administrator:
- Liaise with and communicate event plans to assigned campus stakeholders.
- Coordinate scheduling, technology and other materials for assigned events.
- Assist the NSO administrator with event promotion, registration and check-in.
- Assist the NSO administrator during an event to direct activities, troubleshoot and problem-solve situations that arise.
- Assist the NSO administrator to gather satisfaction and other data needed to assess event quality.
Supervision & Training
- As directed by the NSO administrator and FYE administration:
- Participate in and take minutes for weekly staff meetings with NSO student employees and with partnering departments.
- Assist the NSO administrator in supervising student employees assigned to work on projects and events delegated to this position.
- Assist the NSO administrator to provide training to new student employees.
Other Duties
- As directed by the NSO administrator and FYE administration:
- Work with the FYE staff to ideate and create events and programs to support student achievement.
- Assist with purchase reconciliations.
- Assist with event material inventory.
- Represent the NSO administrator as assigned.
- Attend periodic Undergraduate Education and FYE staff meetings.
- Other assignments as delegated.
What qualifies you for this role:
Minimum education/experience:
- 3 years of event planning experience.
- Experience organizing programs or events that support student engagement or community building.
- Experience planning and executing events in a higher education, corporate, or community setting.
- Familiarity with university structure, student life, and campus resources.
- Experience collaborating with multiple departments or stakeholders on shared projects.
Required skills:
- Ability to take initiative and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision
- Ability to function as part of a cohesive team
- Problem-solving ability
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentations)
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Belief in the value of higher education
- A strong commitment to student success
- Willingness to actively learn about BYU resources, processes and campus life
- Must be able to work outdoors in heat or cold during certain events
- Must be able to lift and carry items (approx. 25-30 pounds) for short distances
- Must be able to drive university vehicles (large vans and golf carts)
- Occasional work outside of normal work hours is required during some events

Pay Grade: 49
Typical Starting Pay: $22.00-$28.75
