This Strategic Operations Research Analyst Associate Manager (level 4 manager) in the Huntsville Operations Analysis Group (OAG) (aka “Possum Works”) will join a dynamic team environment with a unique culture supporting a myriad of Independent Research and Development (IRAD) projects and selected program tasks. The chemistry of the team is critical to our success.

The OAG Associate Manager will:

• Provide superior leadership to OA Team direct reports. Promote accomplishments and seek growth opportunities for the OA team. Foster a supportive, positive work environment. Set clear expectations and support progress toward defined objectives. Inform the professional development program for the OAG team, including an emphasis on mentoring and a regular cycle of training events. Responsible for coordinating subordinate employee recruitment, selection and training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition/disciplinary actions.

• Perform as the Strategic Strike & Missile Defense Weapons OA Lead Analyst, coordinating and overseeing the integration of all aspects of THAAD, NGI, ASP, and FBM analysis in support of LM Space programs and pursuits.

• Perform operations analysis as either study lead or team participant in OA analysis undertakings as assigned. In doing so, apply the 8-step analysis process to obtain traceable, supportable results that answer the overarching question in each case.

• Serve as the Subject Area Domain Lead in an appropriate area. Be up to date on the latest developments in the subject area; take initiative to gather and disseminate information and data in the subject area.

• Review and vet all Operations Analysis Group’s products before submitting to the OAG Chief Analyst for final review.

Responsibilities will also include:

• Conduct quality control validation and verification of all OAG analytical products

• Brief Fellows, Senior Fellows, Directors, and LM VPs

• Develop/mentor junior analysts to a working knowledge of SMD system functions, scientific principles, technologies, and operations

• Support analysts’ translation of interceptor, radar, and battle management concepts into simulation input

• Coordinate with, and support of the OAG Management

• Actively participate in OAG AGILE meetings, bi-weekly threat briefings, and required Mission Integration Directorate and OAG meetings


This position will require limited travel to support internal and external customer engagements

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Mathematics, Operations Research, Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics or equivalent discipline

• Strong background in systems engineering principles, including functional analysis, and system design or Operations Analysis

• Subject Matter Expert level of knowledge of the Missile Defense System of Systems

• Experience as a technical lead, manager, or Product Owner of an engineering team

• Active or Current DoD Secret Security Clearance required prior to start with the ability to receive TS

Desired skills

• Active or Current DoD Top Secret Security Clearance

• Master’s degree from an accredited college in mathematics, operations research, cyber engineering, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or equivalent discipline

• 8+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on system analysis, requirements development, verification, and validation, as well as integration and test

• Strong MATLAB skills

• In-depth missile defense threat knowledge

• Willingness to lead technical tasks to include coordination of geographically dispersed analytic efforts and out-briefing results to senior leadership

• A working knowledge of LINUX, Windows operating systems, and C/C++ programming

• Experience with high fidelity missile defense modeling and integration

• Experience with physics-based modeling of modeling radars/sensors

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

• Strong leadership and technical skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team of systems engineers.

Work Schedule Information

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

National Pay Statement

Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $109,200 - $192,510. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
