The Service & Team:

The Communication Support Team is a friendly and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists ( SALTs), Teachers and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants( SALTAs). 

The team is part of the wider SEND Support Services. We work closely with our colleagues to provide training and development around broader SEND policies and procedures i.e. Graduated Response and EHC Needs Assessments.

We have strong working relationships with our SALT colleagues within the NHS and with staff in educational settings across Cornwall. 

We value learning and continuous professional development and there is a wide variety of training nationally and locally which we access.

 

The Role:

The role holder will work as an Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist across school and settings in Cornwall. They will focus on developing support in settings for children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs. This can include delivering whole setting accessible training, peer support, as well as identifying inclusive strategies and advising on how to implement these. 

You will develop close working relationships with colleagues from the team and those within the NHS. You will also undertake some specialist assessments and provision in liaison with the Statutory SEN team. You will  produce high quality written reports and take part in peer reviews for quality assurance purposes. 

You will be responsible for managing your own diary and working independently, with children and young people always at the heart of everything you do. 

This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies.                       

This position will be subject to a enhanced criminal record disclosure check. 

 

Working Pattern:

37 hours Monday to Friday ( if you are interested in different working hours please contact Mandy Tomkins to discuss this) 

 

What you’ll need to succeed:

You will need to be an experienced and qualified SALT who is registered with the HCPC. 

You will have a passion for improving outcomes for children and young people who have speech, language and communication needs.

You will be able to work within a multidisciplinary team and independently. 

You will always keep the voice of the learner at the centre of your practice, enabling self-advocacy as well as developing the skills of those around them.
