Job Summary:

Helps patients regain function in their cardiac and respiratory systems following a debilitating injury or illness. Establishes and maintains exercise programs for outpatients within cardiac and/or pulmonary rehabilitation patient care.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in exercise physiology, physical education or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor’s): Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) certification: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Develops treatment programs tailored specifically to a given patient, guiding patients through their treatment regimen, and applying heat, water or massage therapy.
  • Monitors and designs exercise and nutritional programs for patients within cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation issues.
  • Identifies unique risk factors, such as hypertension, smoking, poor diet and being overweight, that may be contributing to the patient’s health problems. Suggests interventions, including medical treatments and lifestyle changes, to reduce health risks.
  • Educates and supports the patient in making changes, such as eating healthier foods, quitting smoking and increasing physical activity.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
