Leadership: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of credit risk modelers and analysts while also cultivating a culture of continuous learning and effective communication with stakeholders. By overseeing the development and implementation of robust models, he/she will ensure that loss forecasting is accurate, regulatory requirements are met, and financial performance is optimized. 

Compliance and governance: Expertise is crucial for navigating a complex regulatory landscape; building and maintaining Credit models that adhere to US Federal Reserve’s CCAR framework and applicable guidance (SR 11-07).

About the Team:

Credit modeling team will consist of 20 risk analysts i.e. Sr Managers / Managers along-with Sr Analyst / Analyst.

Impact

Director, Credit Modeling & Analytics will provide strategic leadership and oversight for the risk ratings / credit loss forecasting development function, focusing on developing and implementing sophisticated credit risk models for consumer and Commercial lending portfolios. This role will lead a team of managers and quantitative analysts while working closely with senior leadership to shape the organization's credit modeling strategy and ensure alignment with business objectives. 

Key Deliverables

  • Lead and mentor a team of model development professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in risk modeling approaches.

  • Developing Credit risk models that aligns with the organization's goals, risk appetite, and financial objectives.

  • Oversee the development, validation, and implementation and ongoing support of advanced credit risk models across all consumer and commercial lending products including Mortgages, HELOCs, Credit Cards, and Auto Loans, Commercial Real Estate and Commercial & Industrial portfolios. 

  • Partner with senior leadership to translate complex risk analytics insights into actionable business strategies and policy recommendations. 

  • Drive the enhancement of risk management frameworks to meet evolving regulatory requirements, including CCAR and CECL compliance. 

  • Lead the response to model validation findings and oversee the implementation of remediation plans across the modeling and analytics team. 

  • Guide the development and implementation of new risk assessment methodologies and tools to improve the organization's risk management capabilities. 

  • Lead strategic initiatives to modernize risk analytics infrastructure and capabilities through adoption of advanced technologies and methodologies. 

  • Ensure projects are completed on time and meet the department's and company's risk governance and regulatory standards.

Skills and Qualification

Functional Skills:

Credit risk modeling principles: Expertise in developing and implementing models for probability of default (PD), loss given default (LGD), and exposure at default (EAD).

Credit strategies: The skill to develop and implement strategies for credit origination, credit limit management, and other aspects of account management.

Regulatory frameworks: A solid understanding of regulations that impact credit risk models, such as CCAR / IFRS 9 / Basel III

Technical/Business Skills:

Statistical analysis, machine learning, and programming, combined with a strong understanding of finance and regulations.

Programming and Data Management Skills: Stay updated on quantitative methodologies and tools, ensuring the team utilizes appropriate software like Python / SAS for data analysis and Tableau / Power BI for data visualization.

Modeling techniques: Proficiency in logistic regression, random forests, gradient boosting (like XGBoost), support vector machines (SVM), neural networks and Monte Carlo simulation etc.

Analytical Rigor: Promote and maintain a high standard of analytical rigor and innovation within the team.

Qualification / Experience

  • PhD / Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Finance, or related quantitative field.

  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in credit risk model development, with at least 10 years in a leadership role. 

  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams responsible for development and implementation of enterprise-wide risk models.

  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and experience in interactions with regulatory bodies.

  • Experience of working in a GCC/COE set up for a GSIB / consulting firm
