POSITION SUMMARY: 

This position provides technical leadership in the support of the district learning management system (LMS).  This position is responsible for the support, design, development, implementation, delivery, and maintenance of resources used for instructional functions. The Learning Management System Specialist is the primary system administrator for the district’s LMS and integrated tools.  The position oversees the installation of all system updates, upgrades, integrated tools, and other software integrated with the LMS. This position provides LMS training to all relevant stakeholders, administration and support of the platform, and collaboration with key district stakeholders. This position will report to the Coordinator of Instructional Technology.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Supports and maintains the district learning management system; organizes and supports the creation and distribution of courses to be implemented in the LMS. Supports and provides training for CCPS staff on district LMS. Creates appropriate support documentation as needed. Provides ongoing support for schools and district staff on virtual learning resources.  Solves basic technical problems; investigates and seeks solutions to complex issues. Runs reports as needed to show LMS usage. Works closely with LMS Customer Success Manager to ensure efficient functionality of resources.

 

Works closely with and assists the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Department and the Professional Learning Department with the implementation of district courses and digital resources within the LMS as it relates to digital resources supporting the core curriculum and district CCPS professional development.

 

Works closely with the LMS vendor contact to ensure the functionality and availability of the LMS platform under the supervision of the Coordinators of Instructional Technology.  Seeks assistance from LMS vendor contact to provide an immediate response to problems and emergency situations affecting normal operations.

 

Works with the Information Systems and Technical Operations teams in the Department of Technology to support the priority needs of the LMS. Completes other duties and responsibilities, as assigned, to complete above tasks and tasks that align with district goals.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in appropriately related instructional design, information technology, educational technology, or instructional technology field required.

 

Minimum 3 years of demonstrated successful experience in the area of learning management system administration (training, consulting, supporting) with familiarity in course authoring required.

 

Researches, evaluates, and makes decisions and recommendations that routinely affect the activities of others.

 

Complex: supervisor is available to review established departmental and/or organizational objectives. Independent judgement is required to recommend procedures that affect district practices.

 

Maintain and share/submit documentation of all work performed. Maintain and share/submit a professional calendar of all work planned/performed. Requires regular contact with internal personnel of importance and influence.

 

Requires regular contact and communication with external personnel of importance and influence. Maintain documentation of communication with external personnel of importance and influence.

 

Requires excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.

 

Basic knowledge of SCORM and HTML5.  Administrative knowledge of Learning Management platforms (i.e. Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.)  Some knowledge of authoring applications such as Adobe Captivate and Articulate are beneficial.

 

Requires working in a virtual or office setting, occasional overnight travel, and frequent travel to District locations.

 

Requires travel to local conferences, occasional before/after-hours work, and occasional weekend work.

  

NOTE: This is a grade 27, 225 day position that pays for experience up to a Step 8.
