The position performs skilled tasks including installation, repair, and maintenance of all water, gas, sewer, steam and air lines above and underground, all valves, valve boxes, faucets, traps, boilers, water heaters, catch basins, rag traps, grease traps, sinks, commodes, urinals, gas stoves, gas grills, gas ovens, steam kettles, dishwashers, braising pans, steam cleaners, steam presses, life stations, water tower and related equipment at Raymond Laborde Correctional Center.

Position Duties

Two years of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Four years of experience or training in pipefitting, steam fitting, or plumbing.

Job Duties:

  • Inspect, install, repair, and maintain water, sewer, and drainage systems throughout the facility.  

  • Respond to maintenance requests with precision, professionalism, and pride in craftsmanship. 

  • Collaborate with other maintenance professionals to keep systems functioning at peak performance. 

  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards while working in a secure correctional setting contribute to a team environment built on reliability, responsibility, and respect.


Position-Specific Details

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE 


  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted. 
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. 
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment. 

Note regarding the advertised pay range: The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and NOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
