Internal Redeployment Only - Strategic Projects Officer (Global Talent Fund)

You will join the well-established Research Development team within the Research Service and will have joint responsibility for managing a portfolio of work across relevant academic schools. 

Working alongside academic colleagues, the Strategic Projects Officer will be responsible for coordinating and administrating a number of internal research initiatives and schemes with your main focus being the recently announced Cardiff University Global Talent Fund award. 

The role will require you to forge strong working relationships with a number of individuals across the University including the College Deans of Research, School Directors of Research, University Innovation Institute Directors, Global Talent Fund role holders and Professional Services departments. As well as building relationships with Cardiff University colleagues, you will also work on daily basis with colleagues within other Universities and government agencies where appropriate. 

Due to the nature of the funding, this position is part-time, 21 hours per week (0.6fte) and on a fixed term basis until 30 September 2030.

Salary: £41,064 - £46,049 per annum, pro-rata for hours worked (Grade 6)

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

Key Duties
•    Provide professional advice and guidance on the research grant review and award processes and procedures including the finances, to internal and external customers that will have institute wide impacts, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
•    Take responsibility for resolving issues independently within your role where they fall within set role objectives
•    Investigate and analysis of specific issues within the given area of work, creating recommendation reports, when necessary
•    Ensure that the provision of supporting and administrating research initiatives and schemes is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements
•    Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University’s Schools, Colleges and Professional Services departments.
•    Establish working relationships with professional services and academic colleagues within Cardiff and beyond
•    Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve departmental and University objectives e.g. grant review panel meetings, to accomplish key objectives. 
•    Plan and deliver specific small scale projects, co-ordinating and supervising project teams created as needed
•    Develop and deliver training within the given area of work
•    Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department

Essential Criteria 

Qualifications and Education
1.    Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
2.    Substantial post-graduate research and development experience of working within in an academic or business environment, or evidence of experience in a research administration role.
3.    Able to demonstrate professional knowledge of the research grant review and award process, to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers  
4.    Proven experience in developing new processes and procedures
5.    Proven financial management skills in a professional context

6.    Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people all levels within the organisation and externally
