About the Department

Position Duties
Three years of experience in tourism, marketing, public relations, or administrative services; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
A bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties:
- Support the preservation of Louisiana’s iconic genes through technical assistance, support, and connecting projects to funding for music projects.
- Provide technical assistance, support, and connect cultural events and festivals to resources.
- Independently represents the state at consumer/trade shows and sales missions to promote tourism.
- Leads lower-level staff in marketing activities while on-site.
- Conducts complex marketing research activities and develops sales messages for individual clients.
- Assists lower-level representatives as needed.
- Leads the organization and implementation of large-scale special events to promote Louisiana as a tourist destination.
- Develop and implement marketing and promotional strategies with tour representatives, convention and visitors bureaus, and other stakeholders.
- Collects and maintains data on sales leads to attract tour groups and expand into new markets.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: Probational or Promotional
Career Progression: This position in part of a Career Progression Group and can be filled as a Tourism Marketing Representative 1, 2, or 3 based on qualifications.
Work Schedule: Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
