Job Title:            Maintenance Technician

Department:      Maintenance

Reports to:        Director of Facilities

Classification:   Classified / Non-exempt

 

Summary

To provide students with a safe, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Help perform repairs in the facilities owned or operated by the district
  2. Make repairs to facilities as needed when assigned by supervisor.
  3. Helps keep vehicles, equipment, and tools organized and in safe operating condition.
  4. Examine district owned facilities and equipment relating to HVAC, Plumbing or Electrical when required for purposes of preventive maintenance and repair
  5. Assist with snow removal during the winter months.
  6. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.

Qualifications 

Education/Certificates/ Licenses

  • Valid Missouri driver license with no restrictions
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic knowledge in service and repair of one or more of the following: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Skills and Abilities  

Language 

Must have the ability to read and understand written instruction and to communicate verbally with other district employees. 

Reasoning 

Must have the ability to solve practical problems and follow directions as given, and diagnose equipment. Be able to read and decipher blueprints.

Additional Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of power tools associated with job performing. Have willingness to extend knowledge though continuing education and training for specified area of expertise. Able to work well with a variety of people under stressful conditions.

Walking

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach, climb ladders, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to handle tools or controls.

Hearing/Speaking

The employee must have the ability to communicate effectively with other district employees. For safety reasons, must have the ability to hear the activity surrounding them while completing their job duties.

Seeing

Specific vision requirements include close, distant, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. For safety reasons, must have the ability to see the activity surrounding them while completing their job duties.

Lifting

The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally the employee will lift or move up to 100 lbs. 

Attendance

Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

 

Conditions and Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work both outdoors and indoors. There will be occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, hot and cold, depending upon the season.  The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment.  The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee will frequently work alone, and will occasionally work irregular or extended hours. The noise level of the work environment is occasionally loud. Frequent travel between district properties is required.

 

Terms of Employment

12 months.  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

Evaluation

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluation of Support 

Staff.
