Role Purpose

The SailGP Technologies Mark Set Lead is responsible for overseeing all technical and operational aspects of race mark management across SailGP events. This includes assembly, deployment, maintenance, and disassembly of race marks, as well as supporting the future development and integration of Race Course Technologies. The role requires leadership of an operational team, strong hands-on technical capability, and collaboration across departments to ensure precise and safe race execution.


Key Responsibilities - Mark Set Lead 

Planning & Team Coordination

  • Schedule Mark Set team and train staff for events in collaboration with the OWO and On Water Lead, as required.
  • Lead daily team briefings and confirm the race day plan with the Chief Course Marshal.
  • Efficiently run all mark set operations in line with allocated time frames and budget 
  • Manage the team, providing support, mentorship and development to individuals 
  • Promote a cohesive team environment centered around open communication, a culture of continuous growth and improvement.
  • Deploy dynamic problem-solving whilst maintaining high standards 
  • Attend and actively be involved in team meetings as required, providing accurate updates of production schedules, including adjusting for any delays or issues that arise. 
  • Set work schedules, allocate tasks and monitor team progress to ensure production goals are met on time and within budget.
  • Effectively communicate with fellow team leaders and Tech Team HoD’s, keeping necessary parties informed of progress of projects and timelines
  • Manage your team’s daily performance to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Have considerable latitude for making decisions within their team - Have involvement in the hiring, development, and related personnel processes 
  • Show awareness and accountability of the budgetary implications 
  • Requires decision-making based on information and specialist knowledge
  • Involved in the definition of more complex practices and procedures  

Assembly & Pre-Event Setup

  • Oversee unloading and full assembly of race marks.
  • Collaborate with RCT and Systems teams to install electronics and test telemetry systems.
  • Adapt or complete technical work on electronics, rigging, batteries, and interfaces as needed.
  • Ensure all branding and safety equipment are installed to standard.

Launching & Docking

  • Manage safe launch using yacht or portable cranes.
  • Secure marks in dock space, install fenders and connect to charging systems.
  • Coordinate with venue power providers for dock infrastructure setup.

Race Day Operations

  • Manage deployment of marks on race days and coordinate positions with Race Management.
  • Maintain communication between Mark Set Team and Race Control.
  • Oversee real-time troubleshooting, mark recovery, and end-of-day procedures.
  • Ensure all units are washed down, charged, and ready for the next day.

Disassembly & Pack Down

  • Lead end-of-event disassembly and packing of all mark equipment.
  • Remove electronics, branding, and perform containerization.
  • Reset dock space and prepare equipment for shipping or storage.

Technical Development & Engineering

  • Perform necessary electrical and mechanical modifications to race marks.
  • In collaboration with the design team, you will be required to drive projects relating to the marks
  • Assist in installation and upgrades of components like RC controllers, batteries, winches, and sensors.
  • Work with RCT to support evolving technologies and continuous improvements.
  • Resolve issues with telemetry, power, rigging, and control systems.

SOP & Documentation

  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures for mark setup and operation.
  • Contribute to the Play Boat system design for mark deployment support.
  • Maintain safety documentation and ensure briefings are recorded.


Key Responsibilities - Composite Technician 

  • Ability to read and understand production drawings, build methods and following of part specifications precisely. Conduct regular inspections of the materials, processes, and finished products to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Extensive practical knowledge in all areas of composite boat building. To include the construction and assembly of carbon fibre structural components, mould / pattern making, trimming, fitting, bonding processes, laminating in prepreg, wet lay up, secondary bonding and core bonding of multiple core materials including - Nomex, Alu core, Rohacell, Core cell and more.
  • Follow proper work procedures and safety protocols to include the use of hand and power tools, larger equipment to include: table saw, band saw, chop saw and sanding wheels. Monitor the condition of tools, equipment, and materials and reporting of defects.
  • To ensure components and tooling are handled with care to prevent any form of damage. Maintaining a safe, clean and tidy working environment at all times
  • Complete and manage Build Record Sheets for all works carried out
  • Work to specific measurable objectives and timelines requiring operational planning skills with little direct supervision 
  • Support and develop junior members of the team, providing technical assistance and mentorship to individuals 

Key Expectations & Requirements

  • Extensive marine technical experience, particularly with electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Proven leadership in high-pressure field operations.
  • Experienced chase boat driver
  • Ability to troubleshoot and adapt technical systems on-site.
  • Experience working with race management and multidisciplinary tech teams.
  • Strong understanding of event logistics, safety, and compliance requirements.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work flexible event-based hours.Champion an inclusive environment where diversity is valued
