Our team is expanding and looking to add a Dimensional Engineer. We are seeking a dynamic and driven candidate interested in joining a rapidly growing global automotive company. 

The Dimensional Engineer is looking for a highly motivated Dimensional/GD&T Engineer joining our fast-growing Body Structure Technology Center based in Wixom MI or Windsor Ontario. In this position, you will play a very important role in leading GD&T analysis in product design and development for new projects, ensuring manufacturability of product design, and driving continuous improvement. Key responsibilities include designing components for the assembly process to increase productivity and safety. Your daily duties may involve performing tolerance analysis, analyzing data, identifying problems in the manufacturing process, and documenting case studies. You may also perform statistical reporting and use simulation tools for planning. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, a deep understanding of GD&T, and collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers.

This role will provide professional engineering assistance and consultation to other engineers and departments on technical matters for body structure product. This candidate will need to be able to work in a multinational, multicultural global setting.

Core responsibilities

  • Conduct and support dimensional feasibility studies using 3DCS or VSA software.
  • Perform tolerance analysis for Body-In-White, Chassis, Battery enclosures, Sub Systems.
  • Apply Strong knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5 – 2018) principles and their application in manufacturing and dimensional control.
  • Provide expertise on GD&T best practices and closely work with Quality and Design engineer to make sure that datum scheme and tolerances are accurate for the form, fit and function of the assemblies based on tolerance analysis feedback.
  • Develop and architect body build sequences, focusing on dimensional accuracy, process variation, and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Provide strong experience in support product development during different build phases emphasizing quality analysis & quality check processes.
  • Provide dimensional expertise to support improvement projects (cycle time, efficiency, safety, etc.)
  • Analyze and break down dimensional data to identify source of problems (Sub assembly, Tooling, Supplier part, etc.)
  • Actively monitor dimensional accuracy of battery product & BIW product thru various measurement systems (CMM, Faro, Check fixture, Romer, Laser Tracker, 3D scanner, etc.)


To be a qualified candidate you must have the following: 

  • Bachelor degree or above, mechanical, engineering and material relevant
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive Dimensional Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in tolerance analysis using software such as 3DCS or VSA.
  • Record of contributing to continuous improvement initiatives related to dimensional quality and process optimization.
  • In-depth knowledge of ASME Y14.5M-2009, ASME GD&T Certification preferred.
