To ensure transparency and alignment, here are some key expectations for the role:

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, with the option for four 10-hour days. The position includes one week of administrative call every five weeks.
  • Collaboration: This role will require close coordination not only with ED Educators but also with educators across all units, as trauma care spans the entire facility.
  • Engagement: The ideal candidate should be comfortable interacting with staff across departments, attending staff meetings, participating in state and regional meetings, and serving on state committees.
  • Responsibilities: Includes reporting at trauma meetings, event planning, and contributing to trauma education initiatives.
  • Skills Needed: Strong communication, organizational skills, flexibility to reach all staff shifts, and the ability to take direction and work collaboratively.

    Major Responsibilities:

    • Meets RN job description requirements.

    • Provides staff development including education and orientation. Functions as Surgical Services staff resource person.

    • Utilizes knowledge of Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices.

    • Conducts new staff orientation for assigned area.

    • Develops unit-based preceptor program which facilitates unit-specific orientation. Coordinates annual staff learning needs assessment.

    • Develops and implements annual inservice education plan for each unit based on needs assessment and other data. Coordinates staff CPR education.

    • Maintains various educational reports. Performs special projects as needed.

    • Provides department orientation for contract surgical tech students, other contract services and physician’s private scrub persons.

    • Develops, reviews and revises department competency plan. Keeps competency records current and assures staff competency compliance.

    • Assists with annual evaluation process.

    • Develops, reviews and revises department policies and procedures.

    • Develops, reviews and revises department job descriptions and performance evaluation tools.

    • Performs department Performance Improvement and Quality activities.

    • Continuing Education

    • Obtains at least 25 hours of continuing education with 50% unit specific. Completes age specific education of at least one hour per age group.

    • Completes age specific competency checklist.

    • Completes unit and departmental annual skills validations.

    Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

    • Valid, active unencumbered Nursing license approved by the Georgia Licensing Board for GA locations and Alabama Licensing Board for AL locations

    • BLS certification

    • CPR Instructor

    Education Required:

    • Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of Professional Nursing

    Experience Required:

    • At least two years working as clinical nurse Experience with Word and Excel

    Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

    Frequent sitting and/or standing, often for long periods of time. Frequent walking bending, stooping, pushing, twisting and turning. Occasionally lifts 10 pounds or more of office related equipment or supplies. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity in reaching, grasping and handling with repetitive use of hands and fingers in operating computer, calculator, telephone, copier, fax and similar office equipment. Ability to distinguish letters, numbers and symbols with normal range of vision and hearing and ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Work-related stress due to volume and time constraints. May require travel by vehicle to alternative locations.
