About the Department
The Emergency Command Center Battalion Chief recruitment is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal recruitment. ONLY Letters of Interest (memo format) and Resume’s from current, qualified, non-probationary OCFA Battalion Chief personnel will be accepted. This recruitment will be used to fill one current full-time position, one part-time position, and future full and part-time positions.
ADDITIONAL PAY:
This assignment shall receive Staff Assignment Pay of ten percent (10%) of the employee’s base salary per month during such assignment, prorated on an hourly basis for all regular staff hours paid per the Chief Officer's Association Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
Position Duties
In anticipation of upcoming openings, the Command and Emergency Planning section is opening a recruitment seeking Battalion Chiefs who are interested in serving as ECC Battalion Chief / Duty Officer.
The ECC BC position requires a two-year minimum commitment on administrative assignment working a 48-96 shift schedule in the Emergency Command Center.
The person(s) selected will report to the Emergency Command Center Division Chief and provide a conduit for the Assistant Chief of Operations and/or the Duty Chief to exercise command and control of operations. The Duty Officer is continuously available, and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Making critical decisions prior to the arrival of ground resources
- Monitor and support ongoing incidents
- Receive, process, monitor and balance resources and requests
- Serve as ECC contact for Operations personnel
- Facilitate notifications to appropriate channels
- Gather information that affects emergency operations
- Maintain the Daily Status Report
- Coordinate Operations conference calls
- Assume duties of ECC Manager when not available.
The Duty Officer will be expected to be on premise with short duration exceptions and during those times immediately accessible by phone and radio.

Minimum Qualifications
- Currently employed as OCFA Fire Battalion Chief
- Must be in a non-probationary status
- Strong written communications and computer skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with others
