Redmond recreation is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Art Instructor to lead engaging, beginner-friendly to intermediate art classes for adults (ages 18+). The ideal candidate enjoys sharing their passion for art in a relaxed, social setting—helping participants explore various mediums, express their creativity, and have fun in the process. This position focuses on fostering enjoyment and confidence in art, making it perfect for an energetic, encouraging teacher who loves working with people.

Locations: Redmond Senior & Community Center

Hours/Schedule: Hours vary Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and possible Saturday hours between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (no Sunday classes). Instruction schedules will be determined in conjunction with recreation staff to best fit recreation needs, availability of instruction space, and to fit instructor’s schedule to reach the best outcomes. The position is limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week and no more than 1,040 hours per year.

Position Duties

  • Teach one to two classes per week or per month depending on program arrangement for adults ages 18 and up
  • Select and plan class content within the overall curriculum.
  • Determine class skill and age levels and make class adjustments as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe environment and ensure that all participants follow safe procedures.
  • Communicate with participants and City of Redmond staff about studio needs, supply needs, course offerings, and equipment repair.
  • Maintain class rosters

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of skills, principles, and practices in program area.
  • Experience teaching to adults or ability to adjust teaching approach to adult level, including developing art lessons and curricula.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Flexibility, ability to self-start, and a passion for the arts and/or creative endeavors.
  • Time management, prioritization and organization skills.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Previous experience leading group instruction in program area, with verified references of teaching success
  • Successful passing of a required background check
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid WA State Driver's license required. Accommodations for lack of driver's license may be considered depending on the assignment or circumstances.
  • Must have or obtain First Aid and CPR within two months of hire
