Description
Responsible for providing coordination and administration of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe’s Language program ANA 3 year grant. The job primarily functions in Career and Education deparment of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe. The Language Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing all program objectives and activities to include S’Klallam language and cultural-based classes, workshops and special events. This position requires reporting for the ANA grant.
Duties Include:
- Project administration and coordination, including hiring contractors and recruiting participants.
- Assists the Lead Teacher with coordinating language classes and events including dates, location, times, and assign the teachers for the events and classes.
- Works with Multi-Media Specialist to ensure that all materials are recorded and available on the program Webpage, and other media presence is updated and correct.
- Responsible for creating and managing an annual program .
- Assisting with curriculum development, ensuring that it is correct with linguist.
- Coordinate teacher professional development requests and ensure all staff keep learning the language including teaching methods.
- Oversight of data collection and measurements of language proficiency.
- Supervision of 3 program staff.
- Responsible for program evaluation and monthly reporting.
- Compliance with federal reporting and grant management requirements.
- Collaborate with other departments and divisions within the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe.
- Perform other related duties as deemed necessary or requested by the department director.
- Works on personal growth of the S'Klallam by studying content within the Language Department, this includes attempting transcription and translations.
Qualifications:
- Strong oral communication and good writing skills with demonstrated ability to express ideas effectively in private and public settings.
- Ability to lead faculty and staff and develop leadership among the teachers.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Ability to relate well with the children and families of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe and other Native Americans.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow through with tasks.
- This job primarily functions in the educational environment of the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe.
- Demonstrated use of computers.
Requirements
- Education/Experience: High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree or the ability to obtain one in 2 years required. Two to three years expierance in S’Klallam Language.
- Licensing/Certification: Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License.
- Washington State First People’s language and culture certificate for S’Klallam
- State and Tribal background check
- First aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to pass a state background check upon hire.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Travel Requirements:
- Local, statewide and out of state travel may be required.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to walk, sit, stand
- Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- Normal audio and visual acuity
