Atlantis, Florida 33462The Patient Benefits Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring patients have a clear understanding of their insurance coverage and financial responsibility. This position is responsible for verifying patient eligibility, coordinating benefits, securing necessary authorizations, and maintaining accurate patient account records. The Benefits Coordinator will also work closely with patients and internal teams to resolve insurance questions and ensure all benefit-related processes are handled with accuracy and efficiency.Key Responsibilities:
Verify patient benefits and insurance eligibility prior to scheduled appointments.
Enter accurate insurance information into the healthcare system software, including co-pay amounts, referral requirements, and outstanding balances.
Obtain and document insurance authorizations in a timely manner.
Ensure correct coding and modifiers are applied in accordance with LCD guidelines.
Assist patients with insurance inquiries in person and via phone.
Secure and document insurance referrals prior to patient appointments.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance plans accepted by each physician or practice location.
Manage patient accounts receivable, including creating payment arrangements when necessary.
Sort, scan, and file medical records into the appropriate sections of electronic patient charts.
Process daily incoming and outgoing mail.
Manage and complete daily task lists.
Regularly check and respond to emails in a timely manner.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the manager.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Intermediate computer skills with knowledge of office procedures and standard business equipment.
Prior experience in a medical office environment required.
Knowledge of CPT codes, ICD-10, HCPC coding, and insurance billing systems.
Proficiency with insurance and coding, including Athena EMR experience preferred.
Ability to manage interruptions, adapt to changing priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
Strong time management, organization, and communication skills.
