POSITION SUMMARY:
Do you have a passion for music and inspiring others to express themselves creatively? The Demakes Family YMCA in Lynn, Massachusetts is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Music and Arts Specialist to lead and grow our music programming. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys working with youth and adults to develop musical skills and confidence. The Music and Arts Specialist will facilitate music education and production programs in our studio space, working with participants of all ages and skill levels. This includes teaching instrument basics, vocal techniques, songwriting, digital music production, podcasting, musical theatre and studio recording. The Specialist will also help organize performances, workshops, and community music events. Music at the Y is about more than just sound—it's about building confidence, creativity, and connection. The ideal candidate will be energetic, organized, and passionate about making music accessible and fun for everyone.
Schedule: Varies by season and program needs. Evenings and weekends required.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
· Provide excellent member service by exceeding expectations.
· Build relationships with participants through active listening and personalized instruction.
· Teach music fundamentals including rhythm, melody, harmony, and technique across various instruments and vocal styles.
· Guide participants in music production using studio equipment and software (e.g., GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton).
· Organize and lead group classes, private lessons, and collaborative music projects.
· Support youth development through music education and creative expression.
· Plan and execute music showcases, recitals, and community events.
· Maintain studio equipment and ensure a safe, welcoming learning environment.
· Attend staff meetings and participate in professional development opportunities.
· Carry out other related responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· 1–2+ years of experience teaching music or working in a studio environment.
· Proficiency in one or more instruments and/or vocal performance preferred.
· Experience with music production software and studio equipment preferred.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to work evenings and weekends.
· Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
· Passionate, mission-driven, and team-oriented.
· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from all backgrounds.
REQUIRED TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS:
· Completion of company-mandated training is required at the start of employment.
· CPR/First Aid/AED certification required within first 90 days of employment.
