General Requirements:
A. Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in education, social work, related field, or any acceptable combination of education and experience. Experience may be substituted for college education based on a ratio of two years’ experience for one year of college.
B. Experience: Two years of experience in working with disadvantaged youth in promoting educational opportunities, admissions, and financial aid counseling. Experience in diagnostic testing and data processing. Experience in documentation and accountability.
C. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have good organizational skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision. Ability to demonstrate sensitivity in communicating with students and/or individuals from diverse social, economic, ethnic, academic, and cultural backgrounds like that of other Trio Programs, such as the Upward Bound Program.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Responsible for identifying, recruiting, screening, enrolling, and providing services to a caseload of 300 – 330 high school/middle school eligible project participants in grades 6 - 12 in target area schools with the potentials to pursue a college education.
• Responsible for planning, preparation, and delivery of outreach recruitment presentations to students (in classroom or virtual setting). Responsible for the evaluation and assessment of student’s eligibility for services.
• Responsible for motivating, encouraging, and helping participants to complete a rigorous secondary school program of study and helping them to graduate during the project year. Provides a series of workshops to encourage, and support the participants’ school persistence.
• Responsible for providing guidance and connections to high quality academic tutoring, mentoring, and academic advisement to ensure students’ persistence in secondary and post-secondary education.
• Responsible for providing students with information about educational opportunities, financial aid/literacy, career exploration, self-awareness workshops, individual/academic counseling, and other presentations in-person or virtual. Responsible for documentation and keeping a list of services rendered to each participant.
• Responsible for helping project participants to select a post-secondary educational institution, and assist with completion of all admissions, federal financial aid forms (FAFSA, ACG, SMART, etc.), and scholarships, to ensure students’ successful post-secondary enrollment. Responsible also for follow-up of former participants until after college graduation.
• Plan, organize and supervise student field trips, college visits, and all cultural activities/events along with Lead Outreach Counselor.
• Responsible for gathering accurate student data for input into the Trio Blumen software system.
• Responsible for conducting or assisting with Financial Aid Workshops, Parent Nights, and assisting with all monthly and Annual Performance Reports to the U.S. Department of Education.
• Responsible for coordinating all activities for the Talent Search participants, along with the Lead Counselor and under the supervision of the ETS Program Director.
• Attends monthly staff meetings, conferences, seminars, and trainings to maintain current knowledge of regulations and Trio updates from the Department of Education, as well as agency’s policies and procedures. STEM Responsibilities:
• Assist in the coordination of the Middle School STEM Component studies and activities during regular school time, nights, and weekends if necessary, and acts as a liaison with the middle school and the Educational Talent Search Program.
• Assist and chaperone students to STEM related conferences and competitions as needed.
• Assist with the coordination of and participate in a variety of STEM events, STEM Expo’s, STEM Labs, etc. Works closely with the school’s STEM Instructors to ensure delivery of all STEM materials needed.
• Responsible for keeping up with all STEM equipment, and purchases made with the Educational Talent Search Program STEM grant funds.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by ETS Program Director.
