Description

The LPN/Lab Coordinator provides clinical and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of laboratory and nursing services. This position performs nursing duties within the scope of an LPN license while overseeing laboratory functions such as specimen collection, processing, documentation, and compliance with regulatory standards. The LPN/Lab Coordinator serves as a liaison between nursing, providers, and laboratory services to promote quality care, efficiency, and patient safety.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):

Licensed Practical Nurse Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care, including vital signs, medication administration, injections, wound care, and other nursing procedures as assigned.
  • Assist providers with examinations, procedures, and patient education.
  • Document all nursing care and patient interactions accurately in the medical record.
  • Monitor and report patient conditions, abnormal findings, and concerns to appropriate licensed personnel.
  • Support infection control practices and ensure clinical areas are clean, stocked, and organized.
  • Participate in care coordination and interdisciplinary communication to support quality outcomes.

Laboratory Coordination Responsibilities:

  • Collect, label, and process specimens (blood, urine, swabs, etc.) following established protocols and safety standards.
  • Prepare specimens for external laboratory transport, ensuring proper packaging and documentation.
  • Maintain logs, records, and lab reports in compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g., CLIA, OSHA).
  • Perform point-of-care testing (POCT) and ensure quality control measures are met.
  • Monitor laboratory supplies, order inventory, and maintain calibration and maintenance records for equipment.
  • Collaborate with external laboratories and vendors to resolve specimen or result discrepancies.
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding lab procedures, safety, and best practices.

Required Education and Experience:

  1. Graduate of an accredited LPN program and New York State licensure required.
  2. Continuing professional education required.
