What You Will Be Doing:
As the Accountant 2, you will provide professional accounting, financial management, and budgetary support, playing a critical role in maintaining the Division's financial budget and projections, as well as conducting overall fiscal oversight. You will assist with financial reporting, internal controls, fund accounting, and accounting systems administration, which require applying knowledge of accounting principles, concepts, theories, and practices. The Accountant 2 will be responsible for preparing financial statements, reports, and billings, as well as analyzing and reconciling financial data.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

If filled in Juneau, your workspace is located in vibrant downtown Juneau, within walking distance of shopping, dining, hiking trails, public transportation, and stunning views of the mountains and waterfront.


In Anchorage, you would work at 4601 Business Park Boulevard in Midtown, close to shopping and dining, and with easy commuting access to the region. Free parking is right outside the office door, and the facility is a single-level, secure building with controlled access.


In either location, a hybrid telework schedule is an option for the qualified candidate.


Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies:
  • Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
  • Auditing: Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.
  • Financial Management: Prepares, justifies, and/or administers the budget for program areas; plans, administers, and monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effective support of programs and policies; assesses financial condition of an organization.

Position Duties

Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in 
  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and disbursing officer's accountability.
  • Adaptability: Adjusts planned work by gathering relevant information and applying critical thinking to address multiple demands and competing priorities in a changing environment.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in accounting, budgeting, or financial management.

Minimum Qualifications

At the time of the interview, please provide the following:
