Foxborough Regional Charter School District (FRCS) is a unique and diverse school serving students from across Southeastern Massachusetts. Approximately 1500 students and families come from urban and suburban communities and represent various backgrounds, ethnicities, and experiences. Job Summary:
The Instructional Building Substitute (IBS) is an essential part of the school community, ensuring that learning continues smoothly when classroom teachers are absent. This role goes beyond just “filling in”; the IBS helps maintain a sense of stability for students, keeps them engaged in meaningful learning, and encourages every child to succeed academically and socially.
The IBS works across various grade levels and subject areas, bringing flexibility, creativity, and patience to each assignment. Because no two days are exactly the same, the IBS must be ready to adapt quickly, follow teacher-provided plans, and collaborate closely with other educators to meet student needs. The IBS is not just a substitute; you are a vital member of the teaching team. By stepping in with reliability and care, you help students feel supported and engaged, no matter the circumstances. You will play a key role in keeping classrooms running smoothly, inspiring curiosity, and building connections that make a lasting impact on students’ educational journey.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate for this position will:
- Step into classrooms and deliver lessons prepared by teachers across subjects such as math, English language arts, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education.
- Create a welcoming and structured environment that helps students stay on track even when their teacher is away.
- Support student engagement by using a variety of teaching and classroom management strategies.
- Cover assignments of up to two weeks in a single class, ensuring consistency but also bringing variety to your teaching experiences.
- When not covering for a teacher's absence, follow a scheduled plan to “push in” and support classrooms needing extra assistance — particularly in subjects like science, social studies, art, music, and physical education.
- Work side by side with classroom teachers to reinforce instruction, provide small group or individual student support, and contribute to the overall success of the learning environment.
- Encourage students not only in academics but also in building confidence, creativity, and positive character.
- Be a steady and reliable presence in the school each day, offering continuity for both students and staff

Qualifications - Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
- Ability to take the initiative and work independently
- Ability to de-escalate behaviors; Calm, neutral demeanor
- Reliable and well-organized with sound judgment
- Effective oral and written communication
- Deep commitment to DEI and anti-bias, anti-racist approaches to education and service.
- Candidates are subject to background checks, including CORI clearance, and fingerprinting
- Current authorization to work in the United States
- Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
Qualifications - Preferred:
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university
- Hold a Massachusetts Teaching License
- Experience teaching in an urban school district
- Knowledge of a wide range of disabilities
- Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues
- Proficiency in multiple languages, reflecting our diverse student population
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
The majority of work is performed in a school or classroom environment, which usually has a moderate noise level. Regular attendance is necessary; absences should be rare and in alignment with district attendance and punctuality standards.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is frequently required to kneel, stoop, bend, and crouch. The teacher is periodically required to stand while talking and listening. The teacher is occasionally required to sit, walk, lift, or carry.
