Department: MEPUSA - Operations Location: Houston, TX

SUMMARY:

Mitsui E&P USA (MEPUSA) is looking for an experienced Geoscientist to work in a fast-paced, integrated, entrepreneurial exploration & development team focused on growing the company. We have recently started operating multiple assets in the onshore Gulf Coast and are looking for a technically and commercially minded geoscientist to help explore and develop these assets and generate new investment opportunities. MEPUSA has a small office, start-up culture where individuals get exposure to all facets of the business and is backed by the financial strength and balance sheet of a global, diverse trading house company with over 150 years of history. MEPUSA�s areas of responsibility are big, including North and South America, onshore and offshore, conventional and unconventional, energy and CCS.

The USA portfolio currently contains a combination of US onshore producing assets, as well as an offshore Argentina exploration asset where we have just acquired a large 3D seismic dataset. MEPUSA is currently operating multiple rigs onshore in the Western Haynesville & Mid-Bossier Play and the Austin Chalk/Eagle Ford trend.

The Geoscientist will be responsible for working with the integrated team to maximize the value of current assets, develop new investment ideas and opportunities, and share their knowledge and experience with others.

The position is ideal for an experienced, motivated, technically strong geoscientist with economic and commercial acumen who wants to have influence on MEPUSA�s growth.

The position is in our Houston Galleria-area office and offers two-day remote work & three-day in office optionality.

Title and compensation are dependent on candidate experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contribute to exploration and development success of Western Haynesville and South Texas assets by integrating technical and economic data to maximize investment value.
  • Generate, screen, evaluate, rank, and recommend new investment opportunities consistent with MEPUSA strategy and goals.
  • Interact and collaborate with JV partners, service providers, industry contacts, consortium representatives, and various support groups to support asset monetization.
  • Evaluate, lead, and make recommendations on short-cycle data room opportunities.
  • Provide technical workflow guidance and feedback on non-operated projects.
  • Coach, teach, lead, and mentor colleagues across disciplines and teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below should be representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Advanced level of geotechnical expertise required, including experience in unconventional reservoir characterization, petroleum systems analysis, uncertainty and risk, well log & seismic interpretation, data acquisition planning and mapping capabilities.
  • Experience in applying sequence stratigraphic and seismic stratigraphic concepts, GDE mapping, play fairway mapping, and prospect generation.
  • Work at different scales, developing trend and play concepts and detailed drillable prospect & well recommendations.
  • Experience evaluating, integrating, and interpreting multiple types of data, including core/cuttings, well logs, seismic, geochemical, formation pressure, historical production, and various engineering data.
  • Collaborate with land and engineers for leasing activities
  • Experience of geo operation, casing points, geo-steering evaluating potential drilling/completion hazards and support operation geologists
  • Possess strong working knowledge of basic geoscience and workflows, an understanding of relational databases, and subsurface data and data management.
  • Prepare and deliver internal and external technical and commercial presentations to peers, management, and partners.
  • Possess strong communication and organizational skills and able to work well with peers, management, field personnel, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Must possess a high degree of initiative and independent judgement.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Capability to perform duties with a high level of accuracy.
  • Work independently and within integrated, multi-discipline teams.
  • Operate with integrity, teamwork, open communication, strong sense of ownership/accountability.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

May include job knowledge, educational background, industry familiarity, etc.

  • 15+ yrs energy experience, including exploration, appraisal, and development projects in various basins with experience onshore Gulf Coast.
  • Bachelor�s degree or higher in a Geoscience field of study.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English
