Preferred: Prior experience in formula preparation.

Basic math and computer skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Identifies diet orders from the EMR.
Generates labels, measures EBM/DBM, calculates additives and fills feeding orders for a 24 hour period according to physician orders. Looks up and prepares formulas using dietician prepared recipes.
Responsible for scanning in, storage, scanning from freezer to refrigerator, preparation, and labeling of expressed breast milk (EBM) for individual NICU patient using the EMR.
Responds to parents and nurses needs as requested appropriately. Communicates effectively with other care providers to provide continuity of care. Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative and motivation to achieve the goals of the unit.
Uses milk warmers appropriately for thawing purposes.
Organizes expressed breast milk to ensure patients get oldest milk first. Discards any expired EBM/DBM from the EMR.
Ensures properly labeled formulas are delivered to appropriate patient care areas.
Facilitates workflow that supports aseptic technique in feeding preparation.
Assures that all areas of the nutrition room are clean and sanitary.
Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit.
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality care. Actively promotes and increases awareness for breast feeding.
Notifies NICU management when donor breast milk is in need of re-ordering. Notifies mothers when breast milk supply is low. Helps monitor/maintain/audit reports, data relating to EBM/DBM and feedings.
Documents all refrigerator temperatures and recognizes when intervention is necessary.
Cleans and disinfects nutrition room refrigerator daily and defrosts weekly.
Additional
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Pay Range
