* This role is hybrid out of our Boston, MA office and interns are expected to be in office at least 1 day a week. This role does not offer relocation or a moving stipend.

We are seeking Software Engineering interns to join us for 10 weeks during summer of 2026.   


Interns at athena work on a variety of technical problems across products and platform teams, including:  

  • Core Products- athenaOne : athenaCollector, athenaClinicals, Patient Experience 

  • Platform Services & athena.intelligence – Data Science

Qualifications:  

  • We’re looking for developers who want to work on challenging technology problems to create products that medical professionals and patients use every day. We work with a mix of technologies, but don’t hire developers based on a particular coding language.  

  • We're more interested in folks with raw talent and a burning desire to succeed. The most important requirement for applying is a passion to learn and to make a difference developing enabling technologies.  

  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly  

  • Experience reading and writing code in a programming language  

  • Experience working collaboratively towards project goals and deadlines  

  • Enrolled in a full-time Computer Science or relevant technical academic program, or relevant technical degree program is a plus, though we will consider non-traditional, non-CS degreed applicants.  

Requirements:

  • Must be local to Boston during entirety of the internship (June 1st 2026-August 7th 2026)

    • This is an in-office position, without possibility of remote status

    • We do not offer relocation assistance of any kind for this program

  • Must be available for the entire intern program: June, 1st 2026- August, 7th 2026 (dates are not flexible)

  • This position is ineligible for any form of immigration sponsorship.

 

Expected Compensation

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
