Job Summary

A counselor works with clients to help them overcome and manage psychological and emotional

challenges. Counselor duties include meeting with clients, listening to their problems,

developing individualized treatment plans and coping strategies for the clients to follow.  

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND CERTIFICAITON 

Master’s degree in counseling/psychology/clinical social work/family therapy or a closely

related field. A counselor must also hold a valid practitioner’s license in the US to be hired as a

professional counselor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

• Assessing clients’ needs and developing customized plans to improve clients’ well-being.

• Providing evidence-based therapies with individuals, groups, and families.

• Helping clients adjust to the changes and challenges in their lives.    

• Maintaining communication as needed with external treatment teams and

  professionals.

• Participating in quality and compliance reviews of all counseling documents.  

• Providing crisis intervention services.

• Maintaining client files and records in compliance with HIPPA law standards.

• Attending supervision, staff meetings, in-service training.

• Helping and conducting workshops for ICNA Relief USA through different mediums.

• Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the organization.

• Other counseling related duties as assigned by the supervisor.  

ADDITIONAL SKILLS: 

• Respect cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competencies.

• Coordinate with outside resources including healthcare agencies and outreach programs

  to provide clients with the services needed.  

• Complete continuing education and stay up to date on latest practices as required by

  the American Counseling Association.   

• Bi-lingual skills (Arabic, Urdu, Hispanic, Bengali, Farsi, Pashto, Dari, etc.)
