BSG is currently seeking to hire a Temporary Security Officer for a shopping center location in Berkeley. This is a outdoor post Rover position where you’ll play a key role in keeping notable tenants safe, providing exceptional customer service, and responding to a variety of situations with professionalism and care. We are seeking guards who are alert, personable, and ready to make an impact in an area that values both safety and community.
- Shift: Full-Time Swing (Weekend Availability Required)
- Hourly Rate: $35.00 per hour
Assignment Duration:
November 12th, 2025 – January 9th, 2026

Requirements & Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Eligibility to work in the United States.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Possess a current California Guard Card License.
- A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for applicable sites.
- Reliable transportation is necessary.
- Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
- Ability to navigate CCTV systems
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
- Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
- Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
- Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
- Ensure compliance with both company and client policies and procedures while being open to performance improvement.
- Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
- At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires specific physical abilities to ensure the Security Guard can effectively perform essential job duties. The candidate must be able to:
- Stand or Walk for Extended Periods: Ability to stand and walk for long shifts, often for several hours at a time, including traversing outdoor areas with uneven surfaces, without significant physical strain.
- Climb Stairs: Regularly climb stairs and navigate multi-level buildings to perform patrols and check all areas.
- Lift and Carry: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move or secure equipment, and assist with other duties as necessary.
- Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand various weather conditions during outdoor patrols, including hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and operate security equipment, such as radios, keys, and locks.
- Run or Move Quickly: Ability to sprint short distances if needed to respond quickly to emergencies or incidents.
- Physical Stamina: Capable of working long hours while remaining alert and focused throughout the shift. De-escalate stressful situations with professionalism and patience.
- Kneeling and Bending: Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend to check low-level areas, secure entrances, or assist in emergencies.
- Vision and Hearing: Strong vision and hearing to observe surroundings, monitor security systems, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Proactive Safety Presence: Maintain a consistent and professional presence in parking and common areas to deter unwanted activity through observation and visibility.
Guest Assistance: Provide friendly and knowledgeable assistance to guests by offering directions, information, and general support.
Observation & Incident Response: Observe and document activity within the assigned areas, report any safety or maintenance concerns, and follow company and client protocols when responding to incidents.
Traffic and Access Oversight: Monitor parking lot traffic to promote smooth flow and compliance with property rules.
Professional Documentation: Accurately complete daily reports, incident summaries, and observations through the Lighthouse mobile reporting platform.
Collaboration: Communicate effectively with Operations, site management, and individual tenant representatives to ensure seamless coordination and client satisfaction.
- Equipment Handling: Lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds to assist with security tasks or emergencies.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assist in evacuations or other emergency responses, utilizing physical stamina and agility to support individuals in need
- Conflict Resolution: De-escalate stressful or potentially volatile situations with professionalism, patience, and effective communication skills.
- Professionalism: Uphold a professional and positive demeanor at all times, good grooming and uniform standards, representing the company and its clients with integrity and respect, Adhere to legal standards, company policies, and client-specific protocols.
Note: This position does not involve any loss prevention duties. The guard will not enter stores to investigate incidents, issue arrests, or assist with store-level theft situations. Each tenant is solely responsible for their own in-store loss prevention activities. The security guard’s responsibilities are limited to common areas only.
