Pharmacists Mutual has an opening for an Summer Actuary Intern. The Actuary Intern will be given a variety of projects to complete, which will allow them to develop an understanding of all aspects of product development as it relates to developing product, determining rates, and analyzing profitability within the organization. The intern will have the opportunity to work on corporate initiatives, competitive research, inter-departmental collaboration, and rate analysis.
Essential Functions
Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Research and analyze competitors.
- Perform market analysis and competitive research.
- Assist in rate change analysis.
- Assist in project initiatives and tasks
- Support the product development department with daily operational needs.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge or exposure to the basic principles of research, analysis, and excel.
- Ability to work as an effective team player.
- Open to learning new product development concepts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work quickly, accurately, and independently.
- Ability to meet deadlines and deal with pressure situations.
- Ability to be diplomatic and maintain confidentiality when working with internal and external customers.
- Proactively request additional work.
- Accurately enter data as directed in Excel.
Qualifications
Experience and Education Qualifications
- 1 year of college.
- Pursuing a degree in business, finance, actuary science, or another relatable field.
- Intern should have reliable transportation.
- Candidate must be willing to relocate to Algona, IA for the time of the internship.
- Company will assist with finding housing. Intern will be responsible for covering the expenses of the stay.
Preferred Qualifications
- Student completing Junior year of college course work.

- Vision sufficient with correction to read small print in communications, policies and on the computer screen
- Hearing or other means sufficient to understand conversations in person and over the telephone
- Speech sufficient to make oneself heard in person and over the telephone
- Mobility sufficient to move around in an office setting
- Dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment
- Strength sufficient to lift and carry routine office equipment weighing up to 30lbs.
- Endurance sufficient to maintain productivity throughout entire shift
