This position will be required to work various rotating on call/standby shifts including weekends, holidays, and nights.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications for the position will be invited to sit for a written exam. Those who pass the written exam will be invited to a panel interview.

Written examinations are being held in person on Wednesday, December 03, 2025.

Panel Interviews will be held on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

ABOUT THIS JOB

Position Specific Summary

The Industrial Electrician position at the City of Tucson’s Water Department installs, repairs and maintains low, medium and high voltage electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. This position will regularly work with high voltage systems of 480v and above, with the expectation to follow all safety standards and practices in the electrical trade.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Electrical Supervisor. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains, installs, troubleshoots and inspects electrical systems and equipment within Tucson Water’s infrastructure with or without blueprints. Calculates the proper sizing for conduits, transformers, electrical starters and circuits in accordance with the National Electrical Code standards and Regulations (NEC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and industry standards.

  • Ensures that all electrical equipment is properly labeled per National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E Arc Flash Standards.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs high voltage (480v and above) motors, pumps, drives and circuits to restore faulty systems, making improvements as needed to maintain optimal performance.

  • Communicates with internal and external stakeholders to conduct on-site hazard assessments prior to fulfilling work orders at production sites and facilities.

  • Utilizes the Geographical Information System, Enterprise Asset Management System and other approved software/databases to locate and service assets. Creates and responds to work orders and tracks all the necessary equipment needed to fulfill requests.  

  • Drives to various sites to locate underground electrical infrastructure and facilities (high and low voltage) to prevent damage during digging and or excavation activities.

  • Responds to customer inquiries by researching and resolving issues. 

  • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned.


Working Conditions

This position requires work in various climate and working conditions and includes Indoor and outdoor work with heavy exposure to extreme physical, ergonomic, or emotional hazards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:  6 months post high school
Work Experience:  Four (4) years of directly related experience
License:  Valid and unrestricted Arizona Class D – Driver License – Arizona Department of Transportation – Motor Vehicle Division 

* Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
OSHA 10-hour construction Course Certificate

Experience using Enterprise Asset Management Systems
