About the Department
The Research Assistant in the INSECTS Lab will support the goals of this interdisciplinary research by assisting with hands-on insect maintenance, troubleshooting experimental design, and supporting recruitment efforts. The INSECTS Lab is seeking a motivated and organized Research Assistant to assist with a unique research project, an initiative that aims to engage both education and science majors in a semester long experiential learning project in which collaborative groups conduct novel behavioral research using insects as the study system. This position involves hands-on work with various insect species, including ants, crickets, and cockroaches. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive in troubleshooting, and eager to contribute to innovative scientific research. Work will be conducted in person, on campus, in the Education and Life Sciences buildings.

Position Duties
- Handle and care for a variety of insect species (ants, crickets, cockroaches)
- Assist in maintaining lab organization and experimental setups
- Collaborate with the research team on project-related tasks
- Assemble and program detection chambers for experiments
- Troubleshoot any issues that arise during experiments
- Document and analyze experimental results
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience coding in C++
- Experience with behavioral studies
- Enrolled student with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability and willingness to work with insects
- Problem-solving abilities and adaptability in the lab environment
- Willingness to learn very basic C++ coding
