JOB TITLE: Licensed Practical Nurse/Teacher Aide
JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an approved School of Practical Nursing. Current license to practice in Pennsylvania. High School diploma or GED equivalent.
REPORTS TO: Operationally to the classroom teacher and administratively to the Supervisor of Special Education for the program assigned.
General Performance Responsibilities:
- Assume responsibility for the care and safety of assigned students.
- Recognize symptoms or changing conditions of students and report.
- Assist in the development and implementation of an appropriate individual educational program for each student.
- Perform all medical procedures for the health and safety of each student as related to the student’s individual education program (IEP).
- Assist with all self-help skills (bath rooming procedures, feeding, dressing, etc.) as related to the student’s particular needs.
- Support the implementation of the student’s academic program under the direction of the classroom teacher, and the student’s health program under the direction of health service personnel.
- Effectively participate on educational teams.
- Assist in the care and safety of each student in developing an appropriate method of transporting the student to and from the classroom and home.
- Under the coordination of the teacher, communicate with the parent information relative to the health and safety of the student.
Other Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist with the fine and gross motor development of the students.
- Understand and comply with local district policies concerning health services and all policies relative to the dispensing of medication.
- Maintain proper records, reports and required forms on each student.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required: This is practical nursing work in the care of students who are medically fragile and require the services of an LPN in the educational setting. Work entails a variety of educational and practical nursing duties. Job duties are performed in accordance with established rules and regulations and specific instructions from teachers, nurses and/or physicians. Prior work experience with students who are disabled and/or medically fragile is a plus. Additionally this position requires the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with staff and supervisors.
Physical Requirements: Strength and ability to lift and/or assist in lifting students and their assistive devices, (approximately 75 pounds). Overall good physical stamina to effectively meet job responsibilities.
