KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties listed below are representative of the types of responsibilities required for the role. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed to meet the needs of the organization:
· Performs preventive and corrective maintenance on farm equipment, including lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, adjustments, and calibrations.
· Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems on combines, tractors, harvesters, irrigation equipment, and related agricultural machinery.
· Troubleshoots and resolves complex issues, including full engine rebuilds, hydraulic system failures, electrical wiring repairs, and software or control system malfunctions.
· Maintains accurate service logs, repair records, and parts inventory.
· Assists with monitoring field and harvest conditions, reporting concerns to management and adjusting equipment performance accordingly.
· Works closely with Agricultural Field Supervisor and harvest crews to ensure equipment is ready for timely planting and harvesting.
· Supervises or trains seasonal field crews and junior mechanics.
· Provides on-site mechanical support in the field to minimize downtime during critical production periods.
· Maintains shop and repair facilities, ensuring a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.
· Adheres to and enforces company safety protocols, equipment operation standards, and applicable OSHA, DOT, and EPA regulations.
· Performs other related duties as assigned by the Agricultural Field Manager or Plant Manager.
Qualifications
·KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; completion of vocational training, technical school, or apprenticeship in mechanics preferred.
· Minimum of 2 years of mechanical experience with agricultural, construction, or heavy equipment; equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
· Proficient in diagnosing and repairing diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, transmissions, drivetrains, and electronic control systems.
· Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work under pressure during planting and harvest seasons.
· Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and technical schematics.
· Computer skills for equipment diagnostics and recordkeeping are a plus.
· Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.
· Ability to travel locally as needed and work extended hours during peak seasons.
· Physical stamina to handle heavy lifting, bending, climbing, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
· Must provide own basic tools; employer may supply specialty tools and diagnostic equipment.
