SUMMARY OF POSITION
Under general supervision, performs technical tasks in the operation and identification of leaks of the water distribution and inflow and infiltration of the wastewater collection system. Employees in this classification perform technical, manual work. This position is responsible for the identification of inflow and infiltration  and operates and maintains moderate to complex camera equipment and software.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Conducts basic supervised Inflow & Infiltration inspections of sewer mains, sewer services, cleanouts, and manholes.
  • Utilizes GIS mapping software to identify valves, hydrants, manholes, water mains, sewer mains, and water meters. Assists in preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
  • Assists in preparing tools, materials, and equipment necessary for various job assignments.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly.
  • Checks flow meters for issues. .
  • Identifies basic common Wastewater parts.
  • Helps track inflow and infiltration.
  • Conducts safety inspections and completes check-off sheets and equipment. 
  • Inspects and secures job sites and enforces safety procedures

  • Ability to find, locate and follow McKinney Public Works Standard Operating Procedures. 
  • Ability to work efficiently with an iPad while entering work orders within Cityworks.  
  • Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; ability to calculate decimals and percentages; ability to utilize principles of fractions; ability to interpret graphs.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form. Involves semi-routine standardized work with some latitude for independent judgment concerning choices of action.
  • Ability to exercise the judgment required in situations characterized by repetitive or short cycle operations covered by set procedures or sequences.
  • Ability to perform coordinated movements involving operating a drone, CCTV camera , and various hand tools. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers, subordinates, and customers with respect.
  • Ability to understand and explain the City’s responsibilities and services to customers 
  • Build professional relationships with internal staff and customers.
  • Offer flexibility and adaptability, especially during times of change.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work in rotation with Wastewater maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any work related experience resulting in acceptable proficiency levels in the below Minimum Qualifications may be an acceptable substitute.
High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by previous experience and/or training involving water maintenance and repair type work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have Class C Texas Driver’s License.
  • Must obtain the National Incident Merit System (NIMS) certificate IS-100 and IS-700 within 6 months of employment. 
  • Must complete in-house safety training and a Basic Wastewater course.

Other Qualifications

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds). May occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 150 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
There is limited exposure to environmental conditions. Task may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
