POSITION SUMMARY

The Interim Health Coach and Educator is a full-time, temporary position that primarily serves students at the PNCA campus. This position primarily provides individual coaching to students who want assistance navigating the health and wellness options at Willamette University and in the Portland community. Additionally, through case management and one-on-one meetings, this position maintains ongoing contact with PNCA students to address needs, foster self-advocacy in students, and advocate for students individually and systemically.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

Health Coaching, Case Management, and Referrals (80%) 

  • Provide individual wellness sessions for students focused on increasing pro-health behaviors. 

  • Facilitate confidential initial and follow-up appointments with students referred for health questions and concerns. Use evidence-based practices of motivational interviewing and stages of change (i.e., BASICS) to develop a change plan for a variety of self-care and harm-reducing behaviors. 

  • Work with students to create structures and identify support to thrive on campus. ● Refer students to appropriate community or campus medical providers, mental health counselors, or other University services. 

  • Provide ongoing case management and follow-up to students as appropriate. Health Education and Training (10%) 

  • Develop, conduct, and coordinate student health needs assessments to inform educational planning and document student behavior and attitude trends.

Divisional Leadership (10%) 

  • Act as a resource for colleagues regarding their work-related health and well-being 

  • Attend required supervisory meetings. 

  • Be accessible, visible, and present for relevant/occasional university speakers; attend staff/student-planned community development activities and educational events as appropriate. 

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with colleagues within the Student Affairs division as well as other campus stakeholders. 

  • Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy as required by law. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or their designee. ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, or a closely related field. ● Experience applying principles of motivational interviewing to health education and prevention. 

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work with a diverse population of students and colleagues, and using an inclusion lens in delivering programs and services practice 

  • Familiarity with best practices and assessment tools related to general well-being. 

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in complex, sensitive situations.

  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to work independently and a collaborative member of a team. 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. 

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

PREFERRED CHARACTERISTICS: 

  • Two years of experience in health education or health coaching programs in a college setting. 

  • Knowledge of equity and inclusion issues and laws that impact higher education (all gender spaces, Title IX, ADA compliance). 

  • Demonstrated skills in public speaking, facilitating conversations, and presenting to families, students, staff, and other constituents. 

Typical Work Schedule: 

Monday through Friday 8 am - 5 pm. Some evening and weekend work as needed. 

Salary Range: $23 - $25/hour 

Start Date: January 26, 2026 

End Date: March 30, 2026
