CYBERSECURITY ARCHITECT

San Diego Superior Court is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Cybersecurity Architect. There is one (1) vacancy approved to be filled in the I.T. Department. Eligible for remote hybrid work schedule.
GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Cybersecurity Architect leads the design, development, and implementation of secure technology solutions that protect the Court’s information assets; and performs related duties as required. The Cybersecurity Architect plays a key role in shaping the Court’s cybersecurity architecture and ensuring alignment with legal, regulatory, and operational requirements. This position requires advanced technical expertise, strong collaboration skills, and a proactive approach to risk management and innovation.

The IDEAL CANDIDATE should have the following:
- Security architecture principles, network and application security, encryption, and secure coding practices
- Architecture and topology of networks, hardware, and data centers, including LANs, WANs, telecommunications systems, and their protocols and standards
- Software engineering and secure development methodologies
- Disaster recovery, high availability, redundancy, and incident response planning
- Network security: Firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, segmentation, zero-trust architectures
- Cloud security: AWS, Azure, GCP frameworks, IAM policies, container security
- Endpoint protection and monitoring tools
- Security monitoring & SIEM: Splunk, ELK, Microsoft Sentinel, or equivalent
- DevSecOps: Integrating security into CI/CD pipelines and container environments
- Application security: OWASP Top 10, secure coding and testing
- Cryptography: PKI, TLS, SSL, encryption standards, and key management
- IAM: SSO, MFA, OAuth2, SAML, provisioning
- Incident response: Detection, containment, forensics, recovery, and response planning
- Security awareness: KnowBe4 or equivalent training platforms
- Design, implement, and maintain the Court’s cybersecurity architecture and policies
- Assess and manage risk while aligning with organizational goals
- Lead security initiatives, incident response, and compliance efforts
- Assist, mentor, and advise I.T. staff in supporting the I.T. systems that support court operations
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and professional growth
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in information security, computer science, or a closely related field;
Substitutions:
- Additional years of progressively responsible and varied technical experience in cybersecurity information system design, programming, integration, and support may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
- A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in cybersecurity information technology, computer science, or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
Certifications:
CISSP, CISM, CISA, SABSA, and/or GIAC are highly desirable.
