This is an intradepartmental only posting. MUST be a current employee within the Water Management Department to apply and be considered.Utility Finance Developmental Assignment
What you’ll learn and do:
Help with the day-to-day business of Water Management’s operations and Capital Improvement Plan:
- Post and review journal entries to pay expenses or correct errors
- Create budget transfers to make sure we have enough money available for our operations and infrastructure needs
- Analyze and reconcile spending on contracts and purchase orders,
- Monitor open requisitions, purchase orders, and contracts for closure/issues,
- Monitor and close Pcard purchases
- Reconcile purchase order receipts to invoices paid for assigned divisions
- Reconcile money received from cashiering with our revenue accounts
- Assist divisions in Water Management and other City departments with finance questions
- Assist divisions with procurement and invoice issues
Position Duties
Help Water Management leadership stay up to date on the department’s finances:
- Monitor, track, and analyze expenses for Water Management’s divisions.
- Calculate, analyze, and report on important metrics, including (but not limited to):
- Department revenue
- Water consumption
- PCard purchases
- Reimbursements to Durham County’s wastewater treatment department,
- Many more!
- Make spending and budget projections for the coming year and quarters
Minimum Qualifications
1. Employed with the City of Durham for at least two years.
2. Received at least a Meets/Meets performance rating on the last performance appraisal.
3. Not subject to disciplinary actions within the last two years.
4. Obtained director’s approval as the employee’s department must agree to continue to pay the employee’s salary while the employee is on assignment.
