Cnidarian Internship
The internship will provide the applicant with an introduction into cnidarian husbandry and exhibit maintenance. At the end of the internship, the applicant will have a basic knowledge of the above skills and techniques as well as a basic understanding of the biology of cnidarian husbandry.
Qualifications
Intern Benefits:
- Learn daily husbandry and nutrition of a diverse collection of jellies and corals
- Learn proper food preparation techniques and understand system diets.
- Learn exhibit maintenance.
- Learn common and scientific names of cnidarians.
- Work closely with aquarium biologists and interact with guests.
Intern Expectations/ Responsibilities:
- Must be on-time!
- Take direction and be willing to perform tasks as assigned.
- Work well with staff, volunteers and other interns.
- Work 16-20 hours a week for at least 12 weeks in fall/spring semesters and 20-40 hours a week for 10 weeks in summer semester.
- Set schedule prior to the start of the internship with morning shifts running from 8:00am to 12:00pm and afternoon shifts running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
- Capability of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, climbing ladders, stairs, and work around saltwater.
- Interactions with Moody Gardens® visitors. Be prepared to answer questions from the public.
- Must present to a formal presentation at the end of the internship
