Job Summary:

To ensure the reliable operation, maintenance, and calibration of online process analyzers and associated systems used in refinery operations. The Analyzer Technician plays a critical role in maintaining process safety, product quality, and environmental compliance.  This is a Safety Sensitive Position.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on process analyzers (e.g., gas chromatographs, pH analyzers, oxygen analyzers, moisture analyzers). 
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot analyzers to ensure accurate readings and optimal performance. 
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of new process and environmental compliance analyzer systems. 
  • Diagnose faults and perform corrective actions on malfunctioning analyzers. 
  • Maintain calibration records and documentation in compliance with regulatory and internal standards. 
  • Support audits and inspections by providing documentation and technical expertise.
  • Participates in safety programs, and shows a strong safety culture and adheres to site policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to refinery safety protocols, including PPE, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and confined space entry procedures. 
  • Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) prior to performing work. 
  • Ensure analyzer systems operate within safe parameters to prevent hazardous releases. 
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, or incidents immediately. 
  • Participate in safety meetings, training, and emergency drills. 
  • Handle and dispose of calibration gases and chemicals safely and in compliance with regulations. 
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes for analyzer system modifications.
  • Completes preventive, corrective maintenance and scheduled maintenance; and improves operation of CEMS, instruments, and control devices and systems
  • Trouble shoots and analyzes system problems and addresses deficiencies
  • Ability to assist in developing maintenance and preventive maintenance procedures and training materials for CEMS, instrumentation and control systems
  • Performs additional tasks and duties as assigned 

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of sample conditioning systems. 
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience with DCS and PLC integration. 
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of analytical instrumentation and control systems. 
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (e.g., ISA, EPA, OSHA, ISO).
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of CEMS, low voltage control systems, instrumentation, DCS systems, operation and configuration, PLC operation/programming, electrical/instrument control device settings and calibrations required
  • Must hold a valid Driver License with excellent driving record
  • Must be able to work extended shifts and respond to emergency call-outs as needed including weekend, evenings and holidays
  • Proficient computer skills, familiarity with Google Suite preferred Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Associate degree or technical diploma in Instrumentation, Electronics, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in analyzer maintenance in a refinery, renewable fuels, or chemical plant preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to pass a physical test of pushing, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time
  • Must be able to climb ladders and or stairs on tanks, vessels and structures; wear respirator; work around equipment containing high pressures and temperatures and various chemicals
  • Wear fire-retardant clothing and other personal protective equipment, such as SCBA, steel-toe shoes and ear and eye protection
  • Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring equipment and materials
