This position provides support to all aspects of city cemetery maintenance operations. This includes but is not limited to funerals, grounds and building maintenance. Weekend and overtime work required as assigned - 24 hours per week.
Position Duties
- Turf Care - mowing, edging, aeration and fertilization.
- Ornamental Care - plant and maintain shrubs, perennial beds, flower beds, native plants and herbicide application in right-of-way.
- Construction – shoveling, digging and minor concrete work.
- Irrigation Maintenance – assist with installation/repair of automatic and manual irrigation systems.
- Janitorial Support- trash removal on grounds, restroom cleaning, and building maintenance.
- Landscape Construction - soil preparation, fine grading, sod/seed installation, shrubs, perennial and flower bed installation, snow removal.
- Funeral Services – assist with grave excavation, vault and monument installation, funeral setup including tents and chairs, and other burial related activities.
May work with community service workers and volunteer groups in a crew leader capacity.
Minimum Qualifications
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to complete time sheets.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to learn basic horticultural skills to include planting and irrigation. Proficient use of general grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to learn to perform semi-skilled cemetery maintenance, reconstruction, and repair work. Ability to learn methods and safety practices in maintenance operations. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. The ability to work in a cemetery environment assisting with all aspects of burials and funeral related services.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Janitorial equipment and chemicals, mechanical hand tools, agricultural hand tools, push lawn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, chain saws, riding mowers, landscape tractors, three point attachments, electrical power tools, pick up truck, small utility vehicles, walking mowers, and sprayers.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to dig; rake; hammer; saw; drill; shovel; push; pull; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift 100 pounds bags of concrete.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Working conditions are primarily outside at the Golden Cemetery. May occasionally work in municipal parks and native foothills setting, sometimes in remote locations. Use of protective equipment as required.
