Reports To: Food Service Director and Kitchen Manager
General Summary: The Food Service Driver is responsible for the safe and timely delivery of prepared foods, supplies, and equipment between the district’s schools, and other designated sites. This position ensures all food items are transported under proper sanitary and temperature-controlled conditions in compliance with district, state, and federal food safety regulations.
Essential Functions:
- ?Safely operate district vehicles to deliver meals, food products, and supplies to assigned school sites on schedule.
- Load and unload food containers, supplies, and equipment, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage or contamination.
- Verify delivery quantities against invoices or packing slips and report any discrepancies.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of delivery vehicles and loading areas.
- Ensure food temperatures are maintained within health and safety standards during transport.
- Assist kitchen staff with meal setup or breakdown when necessary.
- Follow all district safety protocols, including vehicle inspections, food handling procedures, and accident reporting.
- Complete and maintain delivery logs, mileage records, and other required documentation.
- Assist in inventory management and stock rotation at the central kitchen or assigned sites.
- Report maintenance or mechanical issues with vehicles or equipment promptly.
- Exhibit professionalism and a positive attitude when interacting with school staff, students, and vendors.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
- Ability to safely operate delivery vehicles and handle heavy food containers.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Basic math and recordkeeping skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow delivery schedules.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, hot/cold environments, and moderate noise.
Qualifications:
- Education Level - high school diploma or GED equivalent
- Previous food service delivery or a related field desirable
- Valid state driver’s license (Class C or equivalent).
- Clean driving record meeting district insurance requirements.
- Food Handler’s Permit or ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
- Other Requirements-Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education. Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills. Computer knowledge and assistive technology.
