The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) is committed to protecting the public by providing safe and effective individualized services to youth, who will become productive, law-abiding citizens. We are seeking dedicated Paraeducators to support classroom instruction and youth development in secure care settings. Working under the supervision of certified teachers and facility leadership, the Paraeducator plays a vital role in maintaining a structured, respectful, and trauma-informed learning environment for justice-involved youth.

Position Duties

High school diploma or GED 

Minimum Qualifications

The incumbent will work 7.5 hours per work day.

Other Qualifications

Job Duties:
This position will assist instructors in classes for secured care juveniles in state mandated curriculum, behavioral principles, and instructional practices, including classroom management based on positive reinforcement; maintain personal qualities of leadership, integrity, fairness, optimism, seli-contidence, persistence, and vitality.

Duties/examples of work include, but are not limited to, the following tasks:

  • Assist in the implementation of daily lesson plans and classroom activities

  • Supervise students during instructional and non-instructional periods

  • Support individualized learning needs, including IEPs, 504 plans, and behavioral support strategies

  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and adhere to mandatory reporting protocols

  • Operate classroom equipment and assist with grading, filing, and instructional prep

  • Model professional behavior, grooming, and respectful communication

  • Maintain a clean and safe learning environment

  • Participate in training sessions, including PREA, trauma-informed care, and facility-specific protocols

  • Serve as a positive role model and uphold agency values at all times

The incumbent of this position must not have been convicted or pled nolo contendere to a crime listed in R.S. 15.587.1 (c).
