About the Department

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) has an exciting Short-Term Temporary (External) or Out-of-Class (Internal) Business Systems Analyst opportunity in our Finance Division. The selected candidate will serve as a business and technical lead for SPU’s financial data and reporting environment. This environment comprises of multiple enterprise applications/systems and a complex financial data warehouse. A unique combination of information technology, finance, accounting, and business skills are needed. As part of SPU’s Finance Division, this position requires excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills to ensure a successful partnership between City departments, Seattle IT, and SPU users of financial data and financial systems.   


This opportunity is expected to last approximately 10-11 months and is open to all qualified candidates.

Position Duties

Primary Job Responsibilities for the Temporary or OOC Business Systems Analyst (ITP C-BU):

  • Develop and support enhancements to the data warehouse, data marts, and analytical cube systems. 
  • Design and develop data marts for analytics and reporting products such as IBM Cognos, Tableau and MS Power BI. 
  • Work with stakeholders and technical staff serving as a single point of contact (SPOC) to determine business needs for the creation, enhancements and testing of applications for process efficiency, improvements, performance and quality standards. 
  • Prepare workflow diagrams, feasibility studies, business requirements, and specifications for review and approval by stakeholders. 
  • Prepare protocols, policies and procedures to ensure quality and data integrity standards. 
  • Design, develop, and assist in the development of end user ad-hoc reports or published reports, queries, and dashboards. 
  • Identify resources including systems, databases, networks, and direct technical support. 
  • Develop training materials, coordinate, and conduct end user training.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst performing duties such as the implementation of off-the-shelf business applications, including gap-fit analyses, capabilities assessments, design, configuration, and/or testing.

Education: Associate's degree in Management Information System, Business Administration, Computer Information Systems or a related field

Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience(s) will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with reporting tools (Cognos, Tableau, Power BI etc.)
  • Familiarity with Software Development Life Cycle methodologies (Agile) and templates
  • Ability to see beyond the assumed issue to identify and find solutions for underlying business goals

The full salary range for this position is $46.03 per hour - $69.04 per hour. 
 

Workplace Environment:
This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. City employees will have the option to work remotely two days a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.
