Position Description

The HVAC Sheet Metal Apprentice I is an entry-level position designed for individuals eager to begin a career in the HVAC sheet metal trade. Working under the supervision of experienced sheet metal mechanics and journey workers, the Apprentice I will assist in the fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of sheet metal products and equipment, such as ducts, control boxes, drainpipes, and furnace casings. This role provides hands-on training and classroom instruction, allowing apprentices to develop technical skills, learn industry standards, and gain practical experience in a supportive team environment. The Apprentice I will be expected to follow all safety protocols, company policies, and instructions from supervisors while demonstrating a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. 

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Willingness to participate in a registered apprenticeship program, including on-the-job training and classroom instruction 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record to operate company vehicles.

  • Reliable transportation to and from job sites.

  • Ability to pass a background check and drug test in accordance with our Company Substance Abuse Policy.

  • Must complete and pass a pre-employment fitness assessment.

  • Ability to work 40 hours per week and overtime as needed.

  • Willingness to travel to job sites and occasionally stay overnight.

  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, working in confined spaces, and at heights. 

  • Basic math skills and ability to accurately read a ruler or tape measure.

  • Punctuality, regular attendance, and a commitment to teamwork.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Willingness to follow instructions and learn from supervisors and journey workers.

  • Commitment to safety, attention to detail, and continuous improvement.

  • No prior experience in sheet metal work is required; training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the fabrication, cutting, bending, and assembly of sheet metal components for HVAC systems, including ducts, drainpipes, and casings.

  • Support the installation of sheet metal products and equipment at job sites, ensuring work is performed in accordance with SMACNA standards and company guidelines.

  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications under supervision.

  • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively, with guidance from experienced team members.

  • Measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on sheet metal using tape measures, rulers, and layout tools.

  • Assemble and secure seams or joints using welds, bolts, rivets, solder, or caulks.

  • Help maintain a clean and organized work area, including the proper storage of tools and materials.

  • Follow all safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Participate in on-the-job and classroom training as required by the apprenticeship program.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor in an orderly and efficient manner
