Jr. Applications Systems Administrator / IT Department
Salary Grade/Range: MESPA Grade 21 - $32.88 per hour
Specific Core Function:
Responsible for the Student Information System (SIS) software and all related applications responsible for the day to day operations of the Manchester School District. Manage user accounts across applications for staff, families and students Assist Sr Applications Systems Administrator and Information Systems Support Specialist positions in core tasks and operations; ability to train and support office staff, teachers, families and students throughout the District; perform other related work as required.
The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Executive Director of Information Technology but works directly with Applications and Systems positions with the ability to use independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee of this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment with necessity to travel to school sites when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Computer Science and/or 5 years of experience with direct knowledge of Applications Systems;
- Must have a State of New Hampshire Motor Vehicle License;
- Comprehensive knowledge of software systems applications;
- Comprehensive knowledge of software applications problem diagnosis, and software problem resolution;
- Thorough knowledge of assigned department functions, procedures, policies, and organization as they relate to applications support services;
- Thorough knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment;
- Thorough knowledge of individual modules of an SIS system, procedures and NH state regulations;
- Have some knowledge or willingness to learn computer control tools such as IReport, XML, Java or SQL.
Responsibilities of the Position:
- Maintains, updates, and oversees District approved application software and serves as the backup for the Sr Applications Systems Administrator and Information Systems Support Specialist positions;
- Responsible for the overall administration of departmental software application systems for the District and other systems which the district interfaces including SIS, DOE portals, EL, Food Services, Library, CLEVER, School Notification systems and HR applications among others;
- Reviews and analyzes user requests for applications software and its uses as it applies to specific needs. Consults with end users to test and debug applications to meet client needs. May conduct training to Staff, Students and Families as needed;
- Works closely with the Sr Applications Systems Administrator and Information Systems Support Specialist and related technical staff;
- Participates in the development of policies and procedures relating to the proper use of all application software systems;
- Assists with security measures in accordance with established policies and procedures;
- Offers input in trends of District software application needs and makes projections and determinations based on those trends;
- Provides technical support to District staff through multiple resources including and not limited to phone and remote software applications and on-site visits;
- Provides technical support, administers and maintains production applications and other software applications;
- Assists in the Diagnoses of software application operational problems;
- Provides technical advice and assistance to other department staff as appropriate;
- Provides and develops needed information and demonstration concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees in the same or similar class of positions;
- Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;
- Communicates and coordinates routinely with appropriate personnel to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;
- Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification;
- Communicates with parents and students regarding Parent and Student Portal software troubleshooting;
- Provides reporting for I4SEE Coordinator and help with DOE State Report submissions and other related documents by required dates;
- Support and assist school administrators with all aspects of the SIS such as attendance, conduct, grading, gpas, schedules gradebook, workflows etc.;
- Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Information Technology.
Specified Length/Hours of Position:
This is an affiliated (MESPA) position under the Manchester Educational Support Personnel Association negotiated contract. 8 hours per day, 52 weeks a year.
