Job Summary
The Prescription Refill Coordinator will process all patient medication refill requests and prior authorizations.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Answer calls regarding medication refills from patients and pharmacies
- Investigate the status of medication refills
- Educate patients regarding DAP Health medication refill policies and procedures
- Provide outstanding customer service to patients and pharmacy staff to ensure a positive image for DAP Health
- Ensure accuracy in documenting medication refills within patients’ medical record
- Check fax machines for patient medication refill requests faxed from pharmacies
- Retrieve phone messages from dedicated phones for medication refill requests
- Present refill requests to the provider in a timely manner
- Fax back signed medication refill requests to the identified pharmacies
- Scan faxed signed document into patient’s chart
- Document refill in patient’s chart
- Notify patient of denied refill requests
- Prepare prior authorizations for intake medications per doctor’s orders
- Prepare prior authorizations for newborns special formula per doctor’s orders
- As a Medical Assistants responsible for knowing their scope of practice
- Maintain compliance with DAP Health’s policies and procedure and promotes a team environment
- Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities
- Effective communication with patients and coworkers; ability to work as a team member
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Bilingual in Spanish/English or other language preferred
- Proficient in electronic health records - EPIC preferred
- Exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills
Education and Experience
- Medical assistant certificate or signed training on venipuncture, infectious control, patient privacy, basic anatomy and physiology by Registered Nurse or Physician
- Two-year medical assistant work experience
- Current BLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- This position is on-site at a DAP Health Clinic
- Able to lift/move up to 40 pounds, move from place to place, and stand for long periods of time
- Requires current and valid driver’s license and current personal auto insurance as well as reliable transportation
- Able to travel to DAP Health locations throughout San Diego and the Coachella Valley to provide staffing support and off-site training/meetings
- Available for all shifts and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends
